Moon Reckoning
Twenty sixth of thirty lunar days

The toad

The twenty-sixth lunar day is marked critical in Globa's scheme without being one of the satanic four. Local start and end times are below.

  • Runs from the twenty fifth moonrise after the new Moon
  • Critical day
  • Right now, lunar day

P. Globa, Avestan Lunar Calendar, and the short table that circulates from it. Tradition, not a measured effect.

What Globa says

A day of stripping off masks, and of seeing the worst in people.

The book gives a frog or toad in a swamp and explains it through the Russian tale of the Frog Princess: a test of endurance, and of the temptation to be pleased with your own wisdom. The day is for abstinence and fasting and for cutting unnecessary contacts. Excessive activity is discouraged and empty talk is named as the main energy leak of the day. Claiming all the credit is the specific failing, and a tooth should not be pulled today.

Together with the fourth day, the twenty-sixth shows that Globa's difficult-day list is longer than the famous four. It is labelled critical outright, but it is not satanic, and this site keeps the two labels apart because Globa's own book does. The food layer is detailed here: raw vegetables, citrus and fish, no meat and no round vegetables, cranberries best of all, and no spending.

  • 01Say lessEmpty talk is named as the main energy leak of the day.
  • 02Fast and cut contactsAbstinence, and dropping the contacts you do not actually need.
  • 03Take no creditThe urge to claim the whole result is the day's specific trap.

Meeting a person carrying full bags or buckets is read as a sign your life is going the right way; a thunderbolt, in a dream or outside the window, is read as a warning about pride.

Where the sources disagree

Four author lines stand behind the lunar days and they are not one tradition. They run left to right in the order they were written, oldest first, and each one carries its date. This site names which line it is quoting every time.

Albertus Magnus

Medieval, before 1500

Unlucky, though the child is happy

Unlucky. Illnesses are dangerous and nothing should be started, and yet children born today are happy.

The medieval lunary carried under his name. The attribution is traditional and not proven.

Sergei Vronsky

1915 to 1998

Unlucky, everything turns to loss

Vronsky says start nothing, everything brings loss, and the sick are in mortal danger without timely help. Dreams mostly come true, colour ones especially. The child, all the same, will be happy and prosperous, even wealthy.

Classical Astrology, volume 4. His text is the old lunary in modern prose, and carries no symbols.

Pavel Globa

Born 1953

Critical day. Fast, and talk less.

The reading above is his. The thirty symbols, the satanic days, the stones and the omens all come from this line.

Avestan Lunar Calendar, and the school that follows it.

Alexander Zaraev

Born 1954

Last sextile, favourable and sociable

Zaraev has the last sextile here and calls it favourable outright. Mediation and advice from friends and relatives work, creative solutions to old problems bring a superior's support and material gain, and vitality, sociability, charm and humour all rise.

His circulating texts carry no symbols and are pegged to the phase aspects instead.

Three of the four lines call the twenty-sixth a loss. Zaraev calls it a sociable, charming, productive day for fixing old problems through other people. No day that nobody labels satanic splits further than this.

How old is this

Old in part, and much younger than it is said to be.

Books of lunar days circulated in Europe from the twelfth century, and the Albertus and Vronsky lines sit in that tradition. The thirty symbols in their present form, and the satanic days, are a twentieth century Russian arrangement presented as ancient Persian. That claim is asserted and not documented.

How the day is counted

Lunar days are not equal, and they do not begin at midnight.

The first runs from the exact moment of the new Moon to the next moonrise where you are, and is usually short. Every day after that runs from one moonrise to the next, about twenty four hours and fifty minutes. A lunation holds twenty nine or thirty of them.

Because moonrise depends on where you stand, the lunar day is the one figure on this site that genuinely differs between two cities on the same evening.

Calculated

The hours of this lunar day come from the new Moon and from the moonrises in the city named at the top, worked out in your browser with an open astronomy library.

The readings

The lunary attributed to Albertus Magnus; S. Vronsky, Classical Astrology, volume 4; P. Globa, Avestan Lunar Calendar; A. Zaraev. Every claim on this page carries the author it comes from.

The rule here

None of the readings is a measured effect, and where the authors disagree this site says so rather than choosing for you.
